NYRC Men ended the summer 7s season on a high after sending two teams to the semi-finals, where they met each other. Obviously only one could advance to the final, and the senior side honored the teammates they beat by going all the way. They did it with blazing speed and a solid defense that gave up only one score all day. More details from proud first-season coach Rosalie Macgowan and Junior Blaber.

South Brunswick, New Jersey: On a day so hot that there were heat advisories going out to those in the Tri-State Area, the NYRC Men’s Side came ready and hydrated to play and represent the Orange and Blue. Due to injuries and personal schedule conflicts, New York was only able to enter one side. This meant half of the side would be composed of members from the Devo side and the remainder from the Senior side. Some would have expected the team to be at less than full strength; however there is a reason why this great game of rugby is played on the field and not on paper. |

The 7s season is halfway through and the men have been injecting new faces amongst the old with some success. Both teams reached the Plate Semi-Finals at Rockaway with the Senior side progressing to the Plate Final where they lost to Suffolk, who had put out the Devo side in the last round. At the Old Blue 7s on Randall's Island the groups proved a tougher prospect and both sides came away with identical records without making it through to the playoffs. They will look to rectify that at Princeton's NJ 7s this weekend and round out the season at the Hell Gate 7s on Randall's Island. |

As anticipated the CR4 playoff game was indeed a barn-burner, and not just because of the 90 degree F heat! After an early penalty to Norfolk both teams traded tries with NYRC getting the better of the first half 24-13. However, soon into the second half injuries and the heat took their toll and Norfolk came back with 4 tries to 1. Pressing Norfolk hard for the last 10 minutes a couple of calls didn't go NYRC's way and lack of composure on the goalline contributed to Norfolk seeing out the game for a place in the last 16 in South Carolina.
