HERE'S WHY YOU SHOULD COME PLAY FOR US!
We are a Division 1 team competing in the METNY Union and the Northeast. Recent highlights include trips to the national sweet 16 in 2001 and 2002, and to the METNY RFU/NERFU crossover playoffs every year.
Among other things we have put in place several programs to enhance the development of our players: A dynamic coaching team including Drew Fautley, a USA Elite Development coach. He has recently coached the USA Womens 7s team, as well NYRC Women to a national title (2006) while never finishing below 3rd in the nation. Player exchanges with overseas rugby clubs (West Brisbane Broncos, Australia, and the Natal Sharks Academy, South Africa). Access to professional trainers for targeted speed, agility and strength training, and physical therapy. We welcome people with no experience through to those who have been playing all their lives. We believe rugby will only continue to grow in the US if we can provide the chance for inexperienced players to train and play alongside experienced ones. So if you've never played, got the urge to take it up again after a long break, or want to challenge yourself at a higher level then you're welcome to come down and join us. We train for our XVs Fall league season (August - November) and Spring (March to May) season on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. In June-July we play 7s and enter 3-4 tournaments over the course of those 2 months. And we have indoor off-season training in the winter - so no matter what time of year it is, chances are we're playing rugby and would love to have you join us! Keep and eye on the training schedules on the men's frontpage or the men's calendar and come along, or get in touch with with our recruiting coordinator. Rugby really is a game for all shapes and sizes but there are some requirements; you must have cleats and a mouthguard to play, and the willingness to learn a new and complicated but very rewarding sport. As long as you have those you can get away with whatever you want to wear until you get all the proper kit. Our membership is also springled with players from far and wide and we can help players find jobs and relocate through our extensive alumni membership. However NYRC Inc. is a amateur Club and as such does not pay players for their playing time or travel expenses to the US.
To become a full member you will need to pay dues, which entitle you to membership of the New York Rugby Club Inc. not just the men's team. You will also need to get CIPP registered, that is registered to play, with the USA Rugby Union. There is a $35 fee for this that can be paid directly to USA Rugby. Both are required to play.
