Eddie Cullen and Matt Novitzky, both of whom have played for NYM this spring, have been selected to the NRU suqad. In addition they have both been nominated to as possible captains.
Eddie Cullen made his NYM debut against NYAC B after returning from the U19 World Cup in Dubai. He started 4 of the 5 games for the U19s and although they didn't win a game the experience "was amazing". It should stand him in good stead. He has already had a major impact for NYM with his strong, direct running and robust defense in the centers. He is currently at Fordham University. Matt Novitzky, along with Eddie Cullen, was a Met U19 All Star last year and also captained the squad. He is currently at Norwich University in Vermont and debued for NYM at the Long Island tournament last Saturday. He warmed into the game, his first against men, and was putting in tremendous hits by the end despite the NYM pack giving away a large amount of wieght. Both Eddie and Matt were selected to the Met Union Collegiate All Star squad, resurrected this year by Matt Persanis, to play in the NRU round robin. Eddie captained the team and it is likely that both their experience in playing for a mens team and the fact they have experience as a captain was a factor in their nominations as possible captains for the NRU squad. Good luck to all in the Collegiate tournament! |
