New York flanker Phaidra Knight was named at #6, while former NY wing (and once upon a time new-to-rugby NY rookie) Ellie Karvoski got the nod at #11...
The IRB Women's Rugby World Cup 2006 is now over with New Zealand retaining their crown. But the Black Ferns are not the only team to produce players that have shone throughout the course of the tournament
Team managers and tournament officials have joined together to select the tournament's All Star XV, which was announced at the post-tournament dinner on 17 September.
It has not been an easy task selecting a single player in each position, especially considering the overall leap in quality from IRB Women's Rugby World Cup 2002. There have been a number of memorable games and often a number of worthy players in each position.
Some players can count themselves unlucky not to appear in the starting XV. Spanish scrum half Isabel Rodriguez led her team to three consecutive wins and scored two late tries that saw her team beat Samoa and Kazakhstan.
France captain Estelle Sartini was a strong force in defence and attack for her country and England flanker Maggie Alphonsi's energy, tackling and nose for the breakdown were evident throughout the tournament. Samoa full back Valuese Sao Taliu was a classy act whenever she touched the ball, but found herself up against the likes of Canada's Heather Moyse and New Zealand's Amiria Marsh.
Each of the players selected received a certificate and gift at the dinner.
