Saturday, October 21, 2006 Edgely Field, Fairmont Park, Philadelphia, Pa. Ref: Mike Cook This past Saturday in Fairmont Park a tough game was showcased between the New York Women's Developmental team and Philadelphia’s A side who are will be representing MARFU in the National Round of 16 next weekend as USA Seed #16...
This lived up to the hype, with New York resting nearly all of their Senior team and showing excellent depth. The field was sloped against New York in the first half and Philadelphia’s pressure soon had NY on their back foot. Although the ‘tacklefest’ counts were rising early, Philadelphia put in two first half tries to go ahead 10-00 going into the break. The front row trio of Robin O’Hare, Molly Dengler and JoAnn Luttrell were spectacular all day holding their own time after time. After the break, Captain Jenna Bussman broke through the defense for a fantastic try halving the deficit to 10-05. Philadelphia was not done and put in a converted try and penalty kick to go up 20-05. In the last minute of the match, standout fly-half Rebecca Brafman put the “cherry on top” of a great performance and awesome phase of play with a final try for New York. Major kudos to the winner of ‘Tacklefest’, outstanding flanker Michelle Bruce. Also IronMan awards got the entire front row (you know!) and two players who finished the game with taped up broken fingers, JoAnn Luttrell and Jenna Bussman. 01 O’HARE, Robin 02 DENGLER, Molly 03 LUTTRELL, Jo Ann 04 EPSTEIN, Jen (ii) 05 FLYNN, Rachel 06 BRUCE, Michelle 07 JENNINGS, Masako (i) 08 HILL, Katie (iii) 09 WEBB, Amanda 10 BRAFMAN, Rebecca 11 SERRIL-ROBINS, Mira 12 BUSSMAN, Jenna (Capt) 13 LAMAN, Caitlin 14 LEVEQUE, Marian 15 MacGOWAN, Rosalie Reserves 16 LONDON, Laura (i) 17 BOUNDS, Kat (ii) 18 BRETHEL, Katie (iii) Scoreline 05 Min 00-05 Philadelphia-Unconverted Try 38 Min 00-10 Philadelphia-Unconverted Try Half Time 46 Min 05-10 BUSSMAN-Unconverted Try 53 Min 05-17 Philadelphia-Converted Try 59 Min 05-20 Philadelphia-Converted Penalty Kick 80 Min 10-20 BRAFMAN-Unconverted Try Across the board our team played with incredible passion and we are so proud of the amazing effort put in by all our players on this day against a tough opponent...
