The New York women took 2 wins in Kansas City to move on to the Final Four. Although the weather hindered travel plans, New York finally had their team arrive in Kansas City, Mo. around 4am on Saturday morning for a 10am game against NoVa (Northern Virginia). The winner of this duel would be guaranteed a trip to Orlando, FL. and the chance to compete in the Final Four or Elite 8...
New York 29 (12-00) 07 NoVa Saturday, October 28, 2006 @ 10am CMT Swope Park, Kansas City, MO Referee: Tom Coburn NoVa came out with a convincing game plan and worked really hard to unsettle the New Yorkers. Two first half tries by Alison Price and Kristin Baja put NY ahead 12-00 at the half time break. A quick try by stand out center Keenya Warner after half time sparked an aggressive period by NoVa which resulted in a well earned converted try. Two late tries by substitutes Jenna Flateman and Hedwig Aerts sealed the victory. 01 COLLIER, Annie (Capt) 02 MACCALLUM, Katie 03 O’HARE, Robin 04 VIVOLO, Lara 05 EPSTEIN, Jen (i) 06 RUBENSTEIN, Heidi (iii) 07 BRUCE, Michelle (ii) 08 PRICE, Alison 09 MOGRO, Daniela (vi) 10 BAJA, Kristin 11 McGEE, Vanesha 12 BRAFMAN, Rebecca (iv) 13 WARNER, Keenya 14 MacGOWAN, Rosalie (v) 15 WEIKMAN, Maura Playing Reserves FLYNN, Rachel (i) 40 Min KNIGHT, Phaidra (ii) 65 Min McMAHON, Kelly (iii) 70 Min AERTS, Hedwig (iv) 60 Min FLATEMAN, Jenna (v) 65 Min KNIGHT, Lee (vi) 55 Min Non-Playing Reserves LUTTREL, Jo Ann JENNINGS, Masako AUDAGE, Kate LAKE, Lisa BRETHEL, Katie WEBB, Amanda LAMAN, Caitlin Scoreline 17 Min 05-00 BRUCE – Unconverted Try 22 Min 12-00 BAJA – Try and Conversion Half Time 41 Min 17-00 WARNER – Unconverted Try 55 Min 17-07 NoVa – Converted Try 77 Min 22-07 FLATEMAN – Unconverted Try 79 Min 29-07 AERTS – Converted Try New York 33 (21-05) 05 Twin City Amazons Sunday, October 29, 2006 @ 10:30am CMT Swope Park, Kansas City, MO Referee: Dave Audry The Amazons quickly showed the New Yorkers that their pack was strong and wanted to run and maul hard for as long as they could. New York adjusted and started to attack the larger pack at every breakdown creating good ball to the NY backs. A try in the tenth minute by wing Jenna Flateman and converted by Fly-Half Kristin Baja was quickly replied by the Amazons with an unconverted try. Although the Amazons kept trying to disrupt NY, the team speed and commitment to finding holes in the defense had NY up 21-05 at the half with tries from Kristin Baja and rookie wing Vanesha McGee. Another group of adjustments and with the sun and wind behind them, NY opened up the final gap with two tries by Phaidra Knight. On our captain’s (Annie Collier) 33rd Birthday and on a day when Orange and Blue was the color (Both teams wore contrasting uniforms of Orange, Blue and White), New York came out on top and proceeds to the Final Four! 01 COLLIER, Annie (Capt) 02 AUDAGE, Kate 03 LAKE, Lisa (SinBin - 66th Min) 04 VIVOLO, Lara 05 BRETHEL, Katie 06 RUBENSTEIN, Heidi (i) 07 KNIGHT, Phaidra 08 McMAHON, Kelly 09 KNIGHT, Lee 10 BAJA, Kristin 11 McGEE, Vanesha 12 AERTS, Hedwig 13 WARNER, Keenya 14 FLATEMAN, Jenna (Blood) 15 WEIKMAN, Maura Playing Reserves PRICE, Alison (i) MOGRO, Daniela (Blood Sub for Flateman) O’HARE, Robin (Sin Bin Replacement) Non-Playing Reserves FLYNN, Rachel LUTTREL, Jo Ann JENNINGS, Masako MACCALLUM, Katie WEBB, Amanda LAMAN, Caitlin BRAFMAN, Rebecca EPSTEIN, Jen BRUCE, Michelle MacGOWAN, Rosalie Scoreline 10 Min 07-00 FLATEMAN – Try (BAJA Conversion) 17 Min 07-05 AMAZONS – Unconverted Try 31 Min 14-05 BAJA – Try & Conversion 39 Min 21-05 McGEE – Try (BAJA Conversion) Half Time 43 Min 26-05 KNIGHT, Ph – Unconverted Try 79 Min 33-05 KNIGHT, Ph – Try (BAJA – Conversion) We were proud to be able to play a total of 24 of our 28 player squad this weekend.
