Making a strong showing and a strong case for old boys 7's the Gents finished second in the first Old Boys Division of the NY 7's...
We showed up weak in numbers but strong on the field at the first game where we beat the Village Lions 33-7. Our second match against Morris went just as well, with a final score of 42-12. The last game was against White Plains and they came out strong and we never got it going and lost to them 12-45. Gents and White Plains Team Photo John McClusky came down from Maine to captain the side for the day and provided steady leadership to the oldest of the lads. Frank Romano made his return to NY 7's and sparked the team to early wins before fatherhood called before the finals. Pat O'Callahan organized the side and the usual collection of Jersey boys, collected old boys and fat slow props helped round out the side. We had two good wins and a good day of Gents rugby that caps off a season that saw us win a round robin in NJ in the fall, four good matches, great turnouts and good play. As this is the first year of the Old Boys division at the NY 7s we showed that it can be done and we will be back next year to win it all. Thanks to White Plains, the Lion Kings and Morris for putting teams together at essentially the last minute and making the division a success Thus ends the Gents fall campaign. Look for the season to start in March with a old boys round robin in Monmouth. See you at Blaggard's on Dec. 14 and in the spring. Cheers boys. Good season Dave oldboyprop@secondrowproductions.com |
