A crew of players left behind by those in Argentina played in the social divison of the Village Lions 4 leaf tournament today and competed well to make the semi finals. Matt Venzin had a great day at full back while Gianni Lopez stepped into the fly half slot himself.
The backs looked good when the fowards provided them with quality ball and we managed near length-of-the-field scores in two of the three games with slick handling prominant. Against North Jersey center Dave Moylan was on hand to take the scoring pass on the inside from from "T.O." Trini after a long break from Matt Venzin. Against Rochester it was captain for the day Brian "Dosi" who busted a lung to work his way uphill and against the wind in support during the second half to break the final gap and make it to the line. Other try scorers included Saad Cecil and Matt Venzin (2) in the first game against NYPD, Gianni Lopez and Matt Venzin again against North Jersey, and Ryan McGarrity against Rochester. It was a good showing by all there though and people like T-Bone, Brian Tyler, Scott Crafton, Nova and Thomas Ojulu worked themselves very hard on the field. All of the guys from Iona also showed very well. With half the squad away in Argentina a lot of fun was had alongside some good progress. Next week we are at home at Pier 40 for a night game, k.o 7:30pm against Lansdowne, and following that we entertain Iona College. |
