On Friends and Family day the Gentlemen of New York put up its best numbers maybe ever with a stunning 64-7 win over intercity rivals the Village Lions...
The Gents put up 20 points in the first half alone with a line-up that saw looked back over some 20 years of NYC rugby history. John McClusky, the main from Maine drove down. T-bone played his last game before (broken) hand surgery. Mike Delano played for his first time as a new daddy, Clint Tomlinson played his first game of the spring season following a visit out for NY 7's, Jeff Sterns showed up, on time, for him and past New York and Manhattan players and a few others including Monmouth and NYAC all showed their Gents colors. In all, some 27 players got into the game with a few other Gents, like Pete Rizzo and Pete Kane involved in other activities. Pete to referee two games and Pete Kane to tend to the food at the party. In all it was a great showing for the Gents and for Friends and Family Day. The game itself, we dominated in most phases of the game. Good passing, good support, backs on the move, Steve Cullman's favorite down and out passes, the sure foot of Coach Gianni Lopez, a big push up front, Kirk Miller and Sterno's steady control of the game and the fleet footwork of Johnny Mac. We almost entirely changed the team in the second half and showed no let up with Clint, Delano, Cheesy Rob and others continuing the pressure and smart play. Check out some pictures of the day HERE It was a record turnout and a record win. Well done lads. Next up, two games on May 12 with the visiting Poltroons and the Boston Mystic River Old Boys joining us on Randalls Island. 11:30 a.m. kick-off. See you then. |
