A beautiful day surrounded by family members, new and old friends and teammates provided the opportunity for the New York women to display their game infront of a large crowd...
Boston has been working very hard to get their game together for the USA National challenge series in Kansas City in two weeks to win back the NRU's fourth seed in next years nationals(we wish them all the very best). New York on the other hand continues to develop players and provide valuable playing experience in a season that has been weird to say the least. No championship, No league expectations, etc. Although Boston did not break New York’s defensive lines during the game, They played a very tenacious game and worked very hard. Once settled, New York went about their business wearing down the fringe defense with awesome runs by stand out Lock forward, Lara Vivolo and flyhalf, Rebecca Brafman. The recent adjustment to New York’s defensive strategy and the effort and big hits put in by all thwarted the offence of our visitors time and time again. A well worked try in the first half by Rebecca Brafman and another in the second half was all the scoring required to secure the victory in the Senior match. A special thanks to club member and friend, Greg “Gil” Gilliam for refereeing the game. A third period was requested so all could play on this fun day. An early try by Boston put NY on their heels. However, led by scrum half Sara Litt, the team regrouped and a crowd favorite and 17 year old Phoebe Gray (member of our U-19 program) scored right at the end of the game to tie it up. It should be noted that Phoebe made several piercing runs. Congratulations to all the club members for a great day (probably the most attended and successful I have ever seen) and thanks to all that made it special. |
