The Gents of NY scored some 107 points in our last two games. That's the headline. We beat the Old Poltroons by a final score of 41-20 and dominated pretty much the entire game. We jumped of to and early lead with the first try and never really looked back...
Excellent jukes by Kevin "Bono" Fagan and at least one if not two tries helped solifify a back line anchored by Bob Sweeney who made his annual trek down from New Hampshire to prove that he is indeed a Gentleman. Speaking of long trips, Curtis Hayes, currently residing in Shanghi, China made it onto the field, much against his own better judgement. Frank Romano still owes the team a try, he did make one but booted one away too. Kudos to Billy Kretz who calling up the spirit of Joe Namath scored a try on shaky knees, looking back the whole way, but at the last second remembering that the ball gets touched under the try zone. Captain Kirk Miller gets a big thanks for finally shedding his Old Blue shorts and making crucial on-field decisions. Joe Kelly deserves and extra pint for listening to the noise from the Poltroons side. So boys, we finished the year with two huge wins. We lost to the Grays in the final minutes and split wins at the Spring Festival in Monmouth. All in all, it was a great spring for the Gents. Summer rugby opportunities include: - JoJo Moore June 9 in Peekskill, NY
- Saranac Aug 3, (the Ancient Warriors are on the lookout for players)
- Jersey Shore Tournament is Aug. 25.
Updates usually can be found at www.newyorkrugby.com click on old boys. Look for the schedule to be ready by Saranac. If you wanna play, email someone. Thanks to everyone who made it out this season, new players and old. We had over 20 guys to all three home games and I think I counted 27 for friends and family day. There's no telling where this may lead to...Bermuda? Aspen? See you at the bar Cheers, Dave oldboyprop@secondrowproductions.com |
