The NY women won the Rockaway 7s this past Saturday for the 8th time in the last 10 years. Alison Price picked up MVP honors, as the ladies beat Hudson Valley and the Suffolk Bullmoose in pool play, a new Maryland Exiles team in the semis and after an hour delay for lightning, the Village Lions in the championship final...
Tournament Roster: Alison Price, Jodie van Ogtrop, Steph Paddock, Jenna Bussman, Amanda Webb, Laura London, Hedwig Aerts, Jenny Davis, MB, Liz, Patricia, Jenny from Princeton, Carrie Match Results vs Hudson Valley - W 10-5 vs Suffolk Bullmoose - W 29-0 vs CT Bullmoose (extra match to get the rookies more playing time) vs Maryland Exiles A - W 27-0 (semi-final) vs Village Lions - W 46-0 (final) Great moments from the day: - Buss showing up in flip-flops and a bikini with the expectation of relaxing and going to the beach for the day and being told by Hedwig to get her rugby boots and pantalones on…which Buss then did without hesitation
- Alison refusing to forfeit for the final…like we would ever forfeit—dream on!
- In the extra match against the CT Bullmoose - We combined the rookies with a few other players from another team and got them some good full game time experience. They all did excellent! Carrie had some amazing tackles at her first time at scrumhalf, and Jenny (from Princeton) had a few very good runs.
- Frank the tank taking an elbow to the nose in the first five minutes of the first game of the day, possibly causing a broken nose, then suiting up to play for the remainder of the games
- Hedwig, Alison, and Buss had a number of full-field runs for tries…and they played practically every minute of every game. Wow!
- Alison coming from behind everyone on the field to tackle a Lion on a breakaway at our five meter line…then taking the ball off the ensuing scrum and running the entire length of the field to score at the other end…damn, she’s got speed (and endurance)!
- After AP did her full field and back tackle/scoring - she also kicked her own conversion - simply amazing.
- The behind-the-back pass from van Meat to a looping Frank the Tank for a try in the semi-final
- Short Buss attempted to be a touch judge and it was decided that G-squared is probably best left as not being any kind of field official - though we did offer them to take a course.
It was really great to see so many new faces and to have so much support from the sidelines. Thanks to Jessa & Bobby, Heather, JoAnn, Short Buss, Sarge, Piper, and Bailey, Rachel, Antonia and the whole NYM men's team (who made the plate finals in the open division) - the guys were the greatest...the men's and women's teams of the Club supported eachother all day long! |
