Infinity Park, Glendale, Colorado September 8, 2007 A major honor was bestowed on the New York Women this weekend as they were the guests of the Glendale Women Raptors (Olde Girls) in the first ever game to played in the first municipal rugby stadium in the United States...
Two hours before kick-off, the Ladies of New York arrived at the recently constructed “Infinity Park” in Glendale, Colorado. This small community is situated in the middle of the City of Denver and is very proud of their new rugby stadium, public park, community and fitness center. After many years and almost $20 Million in public bonds, the stadium was finished enough to be the venue of this historic event. Similar to the new stadium, the “Olde Girls” also had a new and exciting look to them and their style of rugby. Although New York settled in a good style of game early, the hosts really stepped up their game just before half time and started to take it to New York, specifically in the ruck area. A half time score of 24-3 in New York’s favor was chipped away by half way through the second forty minutes getting within 24-15 with sixteen minutes to go due to a great intercept try by Raptor Flanker Kelli Norden and a sin bin awarded to New York. New York showed that they had some gas left in the tank scoring two tries to finish up 36-15 on a beautiful sunny day at altitude on a awesome natural surface with a admirable crowd, television cameras, and a phenomenal setting at Infinity Park. New York really was so honored by the invitation and had a great time promoting our hosts and the sport of rugby to a community of citizens that believes in the sport and it’s potential.
