The Coaches nominated NYM Player of the Month for August 2007 is Keith Gray. They singled him out for his desire, fitness, and commitment to the team. Keith was the only person to attend 100% of training session from the beginning of pre-season, was the fittest person in pre-seaosn fitness tests, and his level of play dramatically improved as the 7's season finished and we headed into the pre-season. If everyone shows his application and desire to improve then we'll have no problems. A short interview with Keith follows and his profile has been posted on the roster page...
[Ed] How, why and when did you start playing rugby? [KG]The first time I played was in college. I'd never seen the game live or been to practice, but the team was short a player. I didn't break my nose until the second half so I knew it was meant to be. [Ed] What brought you to NYM? [KG] It's a strong club and a good place to learn [Ed] What motivates you on and off the field? [KG] It's easy to be a liability on the field and I'm trying not to be a liability. Other people are working hard enough already. [Ed] Who is your favorite player and why? [KG] O' Gara is pretty decent... [Ed] Most valuable teammates: [KG] Elwell, Galen, Andy Boon [Ed] Most difficult opposing team: [KG]couldn't say [Ed] Most respected player in the same position: [KG] French Paul does a nice job at wing, to answer another question. [Ed] Tell us a funny rugby story: [KG] One of my first games I asked a player on the other team "How's it going?" "Not well", he said. Because he drove to the pitch directly FROM PRISON. [Ed] Some things don't change, and you can see why Keith has his quiet reputation and the nickname "Mumbles". Doesn't say much does he! We'll just let him do his talking on the pitch then. |
