Gents wrap up season in Connecticut Bob Sweeney was the man of the match, in more ways than one. He gets the award for driving the farthest, bringing the most fans and oh yeah, for pretty much single-handedly providing our backfield offense. Really, Bob showed why Seacoast RFC of NH keeps selecting this 48 year old center to their A-side...
Ok so that was the bright spot. No wait, there's more. We combined with the Mystic River Hombres and actually had a full side and played four 20's, we we got a lot of rugby in. As always, the Greys were great hosts. Their field, while on the side of a mountain is a bit umm steep, it's soft and a great facility. After we regrouped, we played decent rugby and prevented them from scoring in the third period. We scored one ourselves but they had built up too big a lead for us and the Greys prevailed. Can't blame this one on a disputed try. As all games with the Greys are, the rugby was great, the competition was tough and we vowed to play again next season and keep the rivalry going. The Greys put on a great party back at their home bar and kept the drinks and food going no doubt long after we were done. There was talk of keeping this game an annual event with either a round robin Greys-Gents-Mystics River. A few pictures HERE
So the fall season is done. Thanks to all who played all year long. We had a a season, some changes and some good games and some low points, but the Gents keep on. NY 7's is next. See you there lads. Cheers, Dave oldboyprop@secondrowproductions.com |
