On a sunny, albeit chilly, day on Randalls Island over 90 teams battled it out to avoid the Turkey. ULR Samurai International Team from the UK, featuring several players from Premiership teams in Wales and full Welsh internatioanl flyhalf Arwel Thomas, produced some sublime rugby to run away with the Premier Division title. They beat RuckU Spartans, also of the UK, in the final. This is their second NY 7s title after their first win in 2004. For the other winners read on...
Mens Club Division: Our own New York-Manhattan (NYM) were defending champions in this division but were put out in the semis by eventual winners Brantford Harlequins of Canada, who beat Eleven Enchiladas (US) in the final. Womens Club Division: New York were also defending champions in the womens division but suffered the same fate as the men by going down narrowly to eventual winners Las Bandidas in the semis. Las Bandidas beat Team Rhinaris (CAN) in the final. Mens Collegiate Division: The University of New Hampshire have enjoyed much success at the NY 7s and it was no exception this year with them putting away University of Connecticut in the final. Womens Collegiate Division: In an all-Canadian final McGill beat Concordia to lift the trophy. Boys U19 Division: In the first appearance of a U19s division at the NY 7s NYRC's U19 Boys made the final, only to be defeated by a strong Xavier side. Girls U19 Division: A small 3-team girls U19 division was played in very competitive spirits and NYRC's own took the title. Mens Social Division: In a tough group this year a final contested by Hasselhoff Knights and London Magic, the former didn't need any help from KITT to win. Old Boys: Hartford defeated White Plains.
