Second row Mike "Mickey" Moran, the NYAC's lone Gent showed the Gents the way rumbling in for a try from at least 15 meters out running almost all the way and largely untouched as he scored one for the big men, icing a 30-12 win over the inter-city rivals the Village Lion Kings...
A clear Gents win, it was a team victory. Dennis Devine re-appeared after a six year layoff to anchor the back line and score a try. Clint Tomlinson did his best to get Referee and Gent Joe Kelly to boot him off the field instead, Kelly, a known ref-baiter in his day, elected to pace off some 30 meters and keep Clint in the game. Buddy Wolfe making his second straight Gents appearance anchored a loose forward collection that eventually pushed out John Watts to the Lions backfield, nearly settting up their second try of the game. Geoff Twist of White Plains showed up and while he got into the game on the Gents side finished on the Lions side forming a tandem with John and showing that despite the colors they had on, they were still out there for the Gents. Laurent Dedieu joined the club making his Gents debut after being sucked into the Rockland Old Boys for a week and we picked up a new Welshman, who broke his finger in his Gents debut. In all fairness, he did say he didn't want to play but then again, who shows up for an old boys game and doesn't get in the game? All in all a good Gents win and a good turnout. On a happy note, thanks to Scott McAuliffe, Inwood Park looked great. More grass than we have played on on Randalls and thanks to the rain, a nice soft grassy field. Scott sent out a crew to do some touchups and the field was definately play-able. Ok lads, we are UNDEFEATED this spring season. Next up, Connecticut Grays, at Connecticut, April 26th. Details to come, noon kick off in Ct. Let's get the same turnout we have had and we will beat them again, this time at their home field. Cheers, Dave Martin oldboyprop@secondrowproductions.com Rest of the season: April 26 at Ct Greys with the Boston Mystic River Hombres May 10 at Morris, N.J. May 17 vs Poltroons/Michigan Old Boys (NY Friends and Family Day) at Inwood Park. |
