 On a beautiful spring day under the Triborough Bridge, with a great view of the Manhattan skyline, New York played their first game on the new Wards Island rugby fields and turned in two very good performances. These new fields are lined specifically for rugby and provide holes for fixed rugby posts. A brief match report follows.
Saturday, March 28, 2009 Wards Island, New York SENIOR SQUAD New York Rugby Club 46 (32-00) 03 Albany Knicks Led by outstanding performances by the entire back line and inspired by the work rate of Hooker Tom Mazzurco, the Senior side scored early and often against a tough visiting team from Albany during the final rounds of the Village Lions Four Leaf tournament. New York were forced into an early change with the late withdrawal of Dave Elwell due to a hamstring strain that occurred during the blowout warm up, Johnny Roberts taking his place at fullback.
