Women take top two spots at Midnight 7s PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 13 July 2009
Congrats on a job well done! 30 women showed up Saturday to wear the Orange and Blue.  In the face of changing tournament conditions, both meteorological and administrative, the NYRC Barbarians placed first at Midnight Sevens and the NYRC Champions placed second!

They had to call the tournament due to lightning/rain/atmosphere conditions and we won on points... Even the rain can't hold us back! Check below for the full write up and pictures.....

AWESOME work at last week's Midnight Sevens tournament down at Pier 40. Often tournament day means rushing to the field to "hurry up and wait" while the organizers sort thier business out. Jessa Tournaments are the exception to this reality. We can't control when the tournament actually starts but making the most of our time together was appreciated. Much love to everyone for their patience, positive attitude, awesome Michael Jackson warm up. Yes, that's right, Michael Jackson warm up - it was fabulous.

Each team played two games and NYRC ended up in first (Barbarians) and second (Champions). It started off as a 6-team bracket then dropped to 5 team when the NoJo/Motley bailed. It then dropped to a 4 1/2 team bracket as Long Island brought 6 players. NYRC was blessed with 30 players, and, graciously 6 stepped up to fill out the roster and offered to get playing time with LI.

The new players are showing a lot of promise and their play has really progressed since the first tournament at Rockaway three weeks ago. After pounding their way through their first match against the Village Lions II the Champions' second match was the Barbarians first match in pool play. Both teams played really hard and it was a ferocious contest. The Barbarians finished the first half and then started the second half one player down but made adjustments and held the Champions at bay. The Barbarians then took the field against the Village Lions II to win. Inclement weather prevented any of the teams from advancing through pool play, the tournament was called, and there really isn’t much to say…NYRC won on points…woo hoo…!
