The New York Rugby Club has been able to take advantage of recent field re-development on the west side of Manhattan by the Hudson River Park Trust and throughout New York City by the NYC Dept of Parks and Recreation. We now hold all of our practices and the majority of our matches on the same state-of-the-art Field Turf material as NFL teams such as the Jets and Giants, and also the same surface used by many international rugby programs such as the North American Rugby League and the NZ All Blacks.

PIER 40 - COURTYARD FIELD - West Houston St. & West Side Highway in Manhattan

TURF FIELD - Sneakers or Molded Cleats ONLY

Getting there:

via Subway -Take the 1/2/3 train to Houston Street, and walk 4 blocks West to the West Side Highway. Cross the West Side Highway and enter the building on the right (north) side, following signs for the Courtyard Fields.

via PATH Train - Take the PATH train from Manhattan, Jersey City, or Hoboken to Christopher Street, and from there walk 5 blocks South to Houston Street and 2 blocks West to the West Side Highway. Cross the West Side Highway and enter the building on the right (north) side, following signs for the Courtyard Fields.

via Car - Pier 40 is on the Hudson River at the intersection of West Houston St. and the West Side Highway in Manhattan. Parking is available on the pier. You can get directions online here.


TIBBETS BROOK PARK - Midland Ave & Teresa Ave in Yonkers

via Public Transportation - coming soon!

via Car - Get online directions here. At Midland & Teresa, enter the Park and follow the signs to the turf soccer pitch at the very northernmost end of the Park. You'll head right (north) after the main entrance and continue on that road - the field will be straight ahead.


PIER 40 - ROOFTOP FIELD - West Houston St. & West Side Highway in Manhattan

Getting there:

via Subway -Take the 1/2/3 train to Houston Street, and walk 4 blocks West to the West Side Highway. Cross the West Side Highway, walk towards the middle of the building that is pier 40 (by the parking entrance), walk up the stairs to the 3rd floor, and the field is on the southeast corner on the roof (if you're facing the river, walk to the left). There is also a large parking lot on the roof, so don't be scared off by all the cars. there is a field there, we swear.

CHELSEA WATERSIDE PARK - West 23rd St. & Eleventh Ave. in Manhattan

Getting there:

via Subway or PATH train - Take the A, C, E, 1, F, V, or 6 subway, or the PATH to 23rd Street. Transfer to the M23 Bus westbound to 11th Avenue.

via Car - Chelsea Waterside Park is at the intersection of West 23rd Street and 11th Avenue. Street parking is available within a few blocks radius of the field. You can get directions online here.

 

 


BAKER FIELD AT COLUMBIA'S ATHLETIC FACILITIES - West 218th St. & Broadway in Manhattan

Getting there:

via Subway - Take the 1 Train to 215th Street. Walk 3 blocks north to 218th Street. Enter via Gate B on 218th St & Broadway (if coming from mid- or down-town Manhattan or Brooklyn, it may be faster to take the A express train to 168th Street, and transfer to the 1)

via Car - Baker is at the intersection of West 218th Street and Broadway. You can get directions online here.

Watch what field we will be on - it will either be the stadium or the Astroplay field (where the soccer field is)

 


McCARREN PARK - Union Ave. between Bayard St. & Driggs Ave. in Brooklyn

TURF FIELD - Sneakers or Molded Cleats ONLY

Getting there:

via Subway - Take the G to Nassau Ave - walk 1 block east on Manhattan Ave and take a right onto Nassau Ave.  The park is on the corner of Nassau and Lorimer street -or- Take the L to Bedford Ave - walk 5 blocks northeast on Driggs Ave, the park will be right in front of you

via Car

From the Bronx and points North:
Go south to the Triborough bridge and take it to I-278 South towards Brooklyn
Take exit 34 onto Meeker Ave (runs along freeway).  Follow Meeker ave for 1 mile to Lorimer Street and take a right. 
Go 3 blocks on Lorimer and past Bayard the park will be on your left side

From Manhattan and points West:
Take the Williamsburg Bridge and towards the end bear right on the ramp and immediately left onto Broadway.  Take a left on Rodney Street- follow Rodney for .5 miles (the name will change to Brooklyn- Queens Expressway) and take a left onto Union Ave.  Follow for 5 blocks and the park will be on your right side.

From Brooklyn:
Take 278 east to exit 32.  Follow the exit for 2 blocks to Union Ave and take a left.  Follow Union for 5 blocks and the park will be on your right side.

 

 


KAISER PARK - Neptune Ave. & West 27th St. in Brooklyn

TURF FIELD - Sneakers or Molded Cleats ONLY

Getting there:

via Subway - Take the D, F or N trains to Coney Island/Stillwell Ave.  Walk one block north on Stillwell ave to Neptune Ave. Turn left onto Neptune and walk 9 blocks to Leon S Kaiser Park (on the right). Trip will take between 1 hr 15 min and 1 hr 30 min from midtown (34th St) Manhattan. Check the subway schedule and weekend service announcements ahead of time!

via Car -

From the Bronx:
Take the Whitestone Bridge to 678 South.  Follow 678 south to the Belt Parkway West.
Follow the Belt Parkway West and take the Exit 7N onto Shore Parkway.  Follow for a short time to Ocean Parkway and take a left.
Follow Ocean Parkway for two blocks to Neptune Ave and take a right. 
Take Neptune Ave about a mile and the entrance to Kaiser Park will be on your right side.

From Manhattan/Brooklyn:
Take the Manhattan Bridge over to Brooklyn and bear right immediately at the end to I-278.  Go under the bridge and follow signs for I-278 west towards the Verrazano bridge.  Take 278 for a few miles.  Exit at the Prospect Expressway (27) East and take it until it runs into Ocean Parkway.  From there you will take Ocean Parkway (for a long time) down to Neptune Ave and take a right.  Follow Neptune for 1 mile- the park will be on the right.

FT. HAMILTON HIGH SCHOOL - Corner of 85th Street & Narrows Ave in Brooklyn

TURF FIELD - Sneakers or Molded Cleats ONLY

Getting there:

via Subway - Take the R to 86th Street and walk West towards 3rd Ave. When you get to Colonial Road make a Right to 85th Street and the field will be across the street to your left. Follow along the field on 85th towards Narrows Ave where you will be able to get in through the gates. Check the subway schedule and weekend service announcements ahead of time!

PROGRESS HIGH SCHOOL - 850 Grand Street in Brooklyn

Getting there:

via Subway - Take the L train to Grand Street. The Grand Street station is right in front of the school. Field is around back. Check the subway schedule and weekend service announcements ahead of time!

South Beach Fields - Fr. Capodanno Blvd. between Seaview and Midland Aves on Staten Island 

TURF FIELD - Sneakers or Molded Cleats ONLY

Getting there:

via Subway/Bus - This is NOT the preferred method for players to get to the field, as the trip will take a little over an hour from South Ferry. However, it is a good option for any local spectators who want to come out and catch the action!
Take the Staten Island Ferry from South Ferry Manhattan (information available at www.siferry.com).
Upon arriving at St. Georges Ferry, Staten Island, take the S 51 bus. Ask the driver to let you off by the skate park, between Midland and Seaview Aves on Fr. Capodanno Blvd. The field is directly across the street from a uniform store at Seaver and Fr. Capodanno.
OR
Upon arriving at St. George's Ferry, Staten Island, take the Staten Island Rail to the Grant City stop. Then take the S 51 Bus. Ask the driver to let you off by the skate park, between Midland and Seaview Aves on Fr. Capodanno Blvd. The field is directly across the street from a uniform store at Seaver and Fr. Capodanno. (More info on the bus is available at www.mta.info)

via Car

From Manhattan via the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel-
Take the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Gowanus Expy towards Hamilton Ave.
Merge onto I-278 West (Go over Verrazano Bridge)
Take the exit toward Hylan Blvd/So.Beach/Lily Pond Ave
Merge onto Lily Pond Ave toward South Beach
Lily Pond Ave becomes Fr Capodanno Blvd
On Fr. Capodanno, go past Seaview Ave.
You will then pass a uniform store on your right, and immediately afterwards, at Iona St., take a left into the parking lot.
If you go past Iona, just make a U-turn to get back to the parking lot.
Parking in this lot is free of charge.

Take any of the above bridges to the BQE West towards the Verrazano
Go over the Verrazano Bridge
Take the exit toward Hylan Blvd/So.Beach/Lily Pond Ave

On Fr. Capodanno, go past Seaview Ave.

From Brooklyn/Queens-
Take the BQE West to the Verrazano Bridge

Lily Pond Ave becomes Fr Capodanno Blvd
On Fr. Capodanno, go past Seaview Ave.

If you go past Iona, just make a U-turn to get back to the parking lot.

From North
Take I-95 South to Exit 6B in NY
Take I-278 West (towards the Triboro Bridge). Stay on 278 through Queens, Brooklyn, and over the Verrazano Bridge into Staten Island
Take the exit toward Hylan Blvd/South Beach/Lily Pond Ave
Merge onto Lily Pond Ave toward South Beach
Lily Pond Ave becomes Fr. Capodanno Blvd
On Fr. Capodanno, go past Seaview Ave.
You will then pass a uniform store on your right, and immediately afterwards, at Iona St., take a left into the parking lot.
If you go past Iona, just make a U-turn to get back to the parking lot.

From NJ (3 approaches)
From NJ via Outer Bridge Crossing-
Take NJ Turnpike North to Exit 10, NJ-440 East towards US 9/Garden State Pkwy/Perth Amboy/Staten Island
Go over the Outer Bridge Crossing
Take Exit #2 to the Korea War Vets Pkwy North toward Richmond Ave
Turn Right onto Arthur Kill Rd.
Turn Right onto Richmond Rd. (stay on Richmond Rd through a few turns to the road)
Turn Right onto Midland Ave. Follow to the end.
Take a Left onto Fr. Capodanno Blvd.
Take a Right into Parking lot at Iona St., just before the field.
(If you pass Seaview Ave you've gone too far)
Parking in this lot is free of charge.

From NJ via the Goethals Bridge-
Take NJ Turnpike North to Exit 13, I-278 East towards Elizabeth/Goethals Bridge
Go over the Goethals Bridge and stay on I-278 East
Take Exit #15 for Lily Pond Ave toward South Beach/Bay St.
Turn right onto Lily Pond Ave
Lily Pond Ave becomes Fr. Capodanno Blvd
On Fr. Capodanno, go past Seaview Ave.
You will then pass a uniform store on your right, and immediately afterwards, at Iona St., take a left into the parking lot.
If you go past Iona, just make a U-turn to get back to the parking lot.

From NJ via Bayonne Bridge-
Take NJ-440 S toward Staten Island
Merge onto POW MIA Mem. Hwy/Staten Island Expy/I-278 E towards the Verrazano Br. & Brooklyn
Take Exit #15 for Lily Pond Ave toward South Beach/Bay St.
Turn right onto Lily Pond Ave
Lily Pond Ave becomes Fr Capodanno Blvd
On Fr. Capodanno, go past Seaview Ave.
You will then pass a uniform store on your right, and immediately afterwards, at Iona St., take a left into the parking lot.
If you go past Iona, just make a U-turn to get back to the parking lot.

Randall's Island Premier Pitch - Under Triboro Bridge, between Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx

TURF FIELD - Sneakers or Molded Cleats ONLY

Getting there:

This pitch is marked as Field #28 on this MAP (located between Icahn Stadium and the Golf Center)

via Subway - Take the 4/5/6 Train uptown to 125th Street

Exit the station at the NW corner of 125th/Lex
You'll see a stop for the M35 Bus right in front of you

Hit the stop request tape right after you go through the Triboro Bridge Tolls and get off the bus at the first stop on Randall's Island. Tell the busdriver you are getting off by the stadium.

The field is ahead of you a few hundred yards on your right, between Icahn Stadium and the golf center.
