Weather: Cloudy, occasional sunshine, Field: Grass

Against the always physical Long Island team NYRC maintained their discipline to go into the half with a 6-0 lead. Long Island had periods of intense pressure in the NYRC 22 each half but didn't manage to convert into points and were frequently penalized for transgressions at the ruck. Escaping into LI territory NYRC scored a try from a penalty move as flyhalf Walter Imo skipped past a couple of defenders to go under the posts, Matt Venzin converting. Although LI did manage to score a converted try of their own another penalty to NYRC put the game out of their reach. NYRC held a LI drive over the line up as time expired to take the win.

DEVELOPMENTAL SQUAD

Long Island 'B' 33 (28-00) 14 New York

On a mildly sunny day, NYRC Devo side looked to move above .500. The Devo side started the game a bit flat and trying to adjust to the player and positional changes from the previous week. As a result Long Island managed to put two quick tries before NYRC could solidified its play. NYRC showed a renewed sense of commitment to match the physicality displayed by LI, fighting their way inside the LI 22 a few times before the end of the half. Unfortunately, NYRC came up empty and LI managed to score a try again in with 15 minutes to go. However, in those last 15 minutes NYRC discovered a lot to build on. The Devo side noticed that once they took the fight to LI with more straight ahead running and intensity at the tackle and scrum they were able to make progress.

Coming into the second half, Devo continued to take the direct approach. Yet again Devo managed to stay parked inside the LI 22, but still suffered from the lack of a cutting edge need to finish what they started. There was finally a breakthrough in the 65th minute on a pick and go on the tryline by Scott Perez-Fox. LI was able to respond to that try with a try of their own after some sustained pressure of their own. Devo responded with the kind of grit that has symbolized this season and this team. They forced a turnover and over several phases they were able to push inside the LI 10 meter and Tim Antoian found a crack in the backline to punch it in. With time running out on the ensuing kickoff Saad Cecil was able to crack off a great, weaving run that came close to setting up a third try. However NYRC was denied by a knock-on and the final whistle blew.

The ref of the day said although the quality of play was better in the senior side game the better game of the day was easily the Devo game. That summed up the performance by NYRC Devo that continue to fight and show spirit.
